Consider the major routes of La Loire à Vélo and Velodyssey or beautiful quieter ones like La Sarthe à Vélo or that along the Mayenne towpath. Down south, enjoy a Tour de Vendée via that county's many cycle paths. Each Pays de la Loire area has its own distinct, authentic, natural atmosphere, best appreciated by bike. When in cycling mode, you take things in differently, both relaxed and exhilarated, all your senses joyously sharpened.

    La Loire à Vélo en Pays de la Loire [314km]

    The Pays de la Loire (Western Loire) Region boasts 230km of the 800km of the Loire à Vélo cycle route, itself the western section of the EuroVelo 6 route. Riding along the Loire Valley and Estuary, appreciate the great river to the full. Thanks to the quality mark Accueil Vélo, tourists travelling by bike can easily seek out specialist services. As to the Interloire train services, they allow you flexibility in tailoring your cycling itineraries. Our star section of La Loire à Vélo, from Montsoreau to St-Brevin-les-Pins, is being improved all the time. It’ll soon be possible to ride right to the Loire Estuary, enjoying panoramic views across it.

    La Vélodyssée en Pays de la Loire [398km]

    The Velodyssey cycle route covers 1,200km in total, 172km in the Pays de la Loire (Western Loire) Region. This portion follows the Canal de Nantes à Brest via St-Nicolas-de-Redon, Blain and Nort-sur-Erdre, reaching the city of Nantes along the Erdre Valley. Then it leads west from Le Pellerin to the Atlantic along a stretch shared with the Loire à Vélo route. This part is ideal for family outings. From the Loire Estuary, consider heading north up to Brittany, or south as far as the Basque Country! Enjoy the mix of peaceful inland countryside and waterside delights.

    La Vélo Francette en Pays de la Loire [398km]

    La Vélo Francette® cycle route connects Normandy to France’s Western Atlantic coast. Some 235km of this route cross the Pays de La Loire (Western Loire) Region, starting in the Mayenne Valley, offering a great way of savouring ‘slow tourism’, following hidden rivers as well as the regal Loire. Along this stretch, enjoy the epitome of douce France, gentle old France, marked by typical towns and countryside. In total, La Vélo Francette covers 620km, going from the Normandy ferry port of Ouistreham to the Atlantic seaside town of La Rochelle. Plus you can connect with other cycle routes along the way.

  • La Vélodyssée, Pontivy - Nantes - Voie 1

    Vélocéan from Pénestin to St-Nazaire [148 km]

    Linking the Vilaine Estuary and Côte d’Amour, the Vélocéan Nord cycle route forms part of Véloroute 45, also known as Voie n°5 in Brittany, a coastal route that, in time, will link Nantes to Roscoff. West of Nantes, within the département (French county) of Loire-Atlantique, Vélocéan Nord takes you via remarkable sights. Even if the route requires further work, you can already use it to discover numerous delights.

    Linking the towns of Alençon and Le Mans, the V44 cycle route of La Sarthe à Vélo offers two options on quiet roads between Alençon and Beaumont-sur-Sarthe. Combining the two makes for a lovely loop. The eastern route crosses the hilly Alpes Mancelles area with its charming villages by the Sarthe River. The western one goes through the Saosnois area via Mamers and Perseigne Forest.

    La Sarthe à Vélo consists of over 400km of signposted cycle routes through the varied county of Sarthe, lying between Normandy and the Loire Valley (and part of the historic province of Maine). The V44 route linking Alençon to Le Mans and Sablé follows the Sarthe River, boasting a rich cultural and historical legacy. In the south, enjoy following the secretive, unspoilt Loir (without an ‘e’) Valley, with its vineyards and castles. Two alternative routes add to the possibilities for exploring the county’s riches; in the north, a loop takes you through the Saosnois area, while in the south, a loop crosses the ancient Bercé Forest.

From Saint-Rémy-la-Varenne or Les Ponts-de-Cé to Chalonnes, passing via Brissac and its magnificent castle, then via Thouarcé, fans of heritage and of wine will get their fill on this vineyards trip. The signposted route goes via quiet roads and tracks.

Travel at a gentle pace along these, going from charming villages to charming châteaux, enjoying the pure country air.
