The route
From Nueil-Les-Aubiers, head for Mauléon at the current end of the greenway (at time of writing, there are plans to extend this greenway). You’ll ride along a parish road, small, but shared with motorized traffic, so take care. Then you follow the green path (chemin vert) linking Nueil-Les-Aubiers to Mauléon.
Despite the rural aspect of this path, remember that you may encounter some motorized vehicles such as farm tractors, so remain vigilant. Much of this stretch is shaded. It may only present minor shifts in altitude, but there is the odd steep incline. The surfacing isn’t smooth and in part you may have to negotiate ruts.
Once you’ve reached the end of this chemin vert, head for Saint Pierre des Echaubrognes, making use of a provisional stretch of cycle route.

Don't miss
- Nueil-Les-Aubiers : crossed by two rivers, the Scie (in the centre) and the Argent (to the south), the south of the parish is marked by the presence of this river, while the north is marked by a a number of major lakes and ponds. As to the Parc du Val de Scie, along the central part, there’s a fun disc-golf course to try out. There’s also a Terra Aventura treasure-hunt trail here.
- Saint Aubin de Baubigné: Château de La Durbelière, with atmospheric ruins (in a commune, or parish, now within the Mauléon municipality).
- La Corbelière de Moulins: Espace Naturel Sensible (ENS); and Terra Aventura treasure-hunt trail (in a commune, or parish, now within the Mauléon municipality).
- Mauléon: designated a Petite Cité de Caractère for its heritage, this small town dominates the Ouin Valley, its hilltop castle offering exceptional views over the settlement’s roofs and over the bocage (the typical patchwork of hedge-divided fields) beyond. At the foot of the ramparts, the Quartier de Saint-Jouin has a quiet charm, with a belfry in Romanesque style and a 17th-century manor. Climb to the hilltop of Mont Gaillard to enjoy a view over much of town, with the castle in front of you, as well as the impressive abbey, and the two soaring spires of La Trinité Church.
