Fumel / Castelfranc

Once past the town of Fumel and the charming little port of Condat, this stage, leading you into the county of the Lot, alternates between quiet lanes and stretches of greenway. Smart vineyards dominate the countryside, set around elegant old wineries. The remarkable perched village of Puy-L’Évêque makes a stunning sight across the Lot as you follow the riverbank up to Castelfranc, the latter an historic, grid-planned bastide town at the confluence of Lot, Masse and Le Vert Rivers.
Cycle route
Mainly on small local roads with a few sections on main roads; watch out for heavy traffic on some stretches on the outskirts of towns, including Saint-Vite. Leave Villeneuve-sur-Lot via a cycle path, then take small roads.
From Monsempron-Libos, a greenway runs along the old railway line that follows the river; the surface is rough in places.
Keep an eye out for road signs, particularly in the villages. A route with moderate elevation changes, suitable for any experienced cyclist. A few hills in the Clauzade area.
