This Burgundy Canal by Bike stage is along a greenway meandering around the limestone plateaux of the Tonnerrois area from which so much of Burgundy’s celebrated white stone was quarried. From Tanlay on, follow a wilder stretch of valley. From here, the route is dotted with abbeys, elegant villages and Renaissance castles, that at Ancy-le-Franc the finest.

Route details

A new greenway has been laid out between Tonnerre and Tanlay. However, the stretch along the canal towpath is provisional and unofficial, although it should be set out properly at a later date.

The Château de Tanlay

Museums & attractions
Tanlay
Construite aux XVIe et XVIIe s., entourée de douves, dans un très beau parc, le Château de Tanlay est l'une des plus belles demeures de la Renaissance en Bourgogne. C’est ici que fut tournée la série TV Angélique, Marquise des Anges. Propriété de la famille du marquis de Tanlay depuis 1705 jusqu’à ce jour, celle-ci compléta la très riche décoration intérieure. La salle en trompe-l’œil et la tour de la Ligue, avec ses fresques surprenantes, sont particulièrement intéressantes. Visites d’avril à novembre, 03 86 75 70 61.
