Allemans-du-Dropt / Villeréal
In 2023, the French newspaper Le Monde selected the Dropt Valley among its 20 favourite holiday destinations of the year. And what better way to explore ‘‘its relaxing, rounded contours’’ than on a cycling holiday! This stage leads you to Sauvetat-du-Dropt, with its historic bridge and the murals in St Eutrope Church, and Eymet, a bastide town in the Périgord style, reflecting the fact that our cycle route briefly enters the county of Dordogne. Then the cycle route sticks close to the Dropt River, taking you through unspoilt, bucolic stretches of the valley. Make the most of your stop at the end of this stage, the bastide town of Villeréal, with its covered market (halle), narrow lanes, half-timbered houses and Church of Notre-Dame, the latter distinguished by its typical flat belfry.
The Route
Leaving Allemans-du-Dropt, take care along the 2km you need to cycle along the sometimes busy D668 road. From Roumagne, you find yourself back on quiet, minor municipal roads. Since January 2026, the cycle route now leads you north around the medieval bastide town of Castillonnès, making you cross over the major RN21 road, but at a point where visibility is good. If you want to head into this bastide town for services or shops, then continue along the D121 road before climbing to the place via the D2 road, as this way is the less busy option.
From Allemans-du-Dropt and from La Sauvetat-du-Dropt, there are two further local signposted cycling circuits (boucles) allowing you to discover the Pays de Lauzun et la Guyenne easily.
