Ghisoni / Zicavo

Taking you through the heart of the mountains of the Parc Naturel Régional de Corse, this tenth stage of the GT20 cycle route links Ghisoni to Zicavu in some 40 kilometres. First, you climb through Marmanu Forest, the way leading to the Col de Verde, a pass at 1,289m in altitude. After relishing a refreshing descent to Cuzzà (Cozzano), the way then runs along gently to Zicavu, a character-filled village nestling in the Taravo Valley, renowned for its charcuterie. No surprise, then, that you might encounter the odd pig wandering about along the cycle route!
The Route
The first part of this stage follows the D69 road for almost the whole way, as you start from 650m in altitude to climb to the Col de Verde, a pass 17km further up, at an altitude of 1,289m. The first 10km warm-up guides you through the Forêt Domaniale de Marmanu; the next 7km are harder, presenting cyclists with slopes at an average gradient of 6%. Make the most of a refreshing pause at the Relais San Petru Di Verde before embarking on the 17km descent to Cuzzà. Entering the shaded Taravo Valley, you should appreciate the protection it offers from much windy weather. It’s only a further 4km to reach the village of Zicavu. On the final stretch of this stage, take time to sample typical Corsican charcuterie, a highlight of the island’s gastronomic heritage, by stopping off at one of the producers along the Route des Sens.
