Musée de Préhistoire des Gorges du Verdon
The Musée de Préhistoire des gorges du Verdon presents to the public the adventure of the first men in Provence for a million years. The permanent exhibition alternates scenes of prehistoric life, archaeological objects from Haute-Provence and Verdon and multimedia media.
At the entrance of the museum, a mammoth, a woolly rhino, a reindeer, a megaceros and a saber-toothed tiger welcome visitors.
Until 15 December 2025, the Musée de Préhistoire is staging an exhibition entitled ‘Sors de ta Réserve!’ in collaboration with the Haute Provence Geological Reserve. On the occasion of its 40th anniversary, the Reserve is revealing the truth about its mission to protect, study and promote geological heritage.
From 8 March and throughout the year, discover the ‘Echoes of the Bronze’ exhibitions, integrated into the permanent exhibition, which will highlight the richness of the Bronze Age period.’
A family orienteering race to discover Prehistory:
With the help of the leaflet available free of charge at the museum reception, take part in this fun and informative orienteering race that will lead you straight to the reconstructed prehistoric village.
Go back in time throughout the course, go in search of the different stages of Prehistory to discover the hidden word. Once completed and deposited in the mailbox at the entrance of the Museum, you can participate in the monthly draw that will allow you to win the gift of the month.
Experimenting with prehistory: Accompanied by a museum mediator, you can learn how to make a fire without a match, take up archery or throw an assegai with a thruster, and make other discoveries. Activities for groups or families, for children and adults alike!

Visiting Baume Bonne is discovering 400,000 years of human life in the Verdon. The visit is done exclusively during a hike accompanied by a museum mediator. Reservation required
