Description

Just east of Poitiers, the medieval town of Chauvigny is well worth a visit. How about a trip on a velorail? Whether you're a couple, a family or a group of friends, set off for 17 km or half that (round trip), 1 to 2 hours aboard an unusual machine that travels along the old railroad line, once used to transport the beautiful stones from the quarries of the Chauvigny region.
You'll pedal through rolling bocage, discovering the region's heritage with the help of a roadmap, and cross bridges, footbridges and viaducts, including one offering an impressive view of the castles and collegiate church of Saint-Pierre de Chauvigny. In July and August, opt for the Crépusculaires, at sunset, or the Dîner du Viaduc, for a meal in an exceptional setting above the Vienne river.
