Château d'Oiron - Centre des Monuments Nationaux
Built from the 16th century by the Gouffier seigniorial family, the Château d'Oiron houses the "Curios & Mirabilia" collection of contemporary art, freely designed on the theme of the cabinet of curiosities in reference to the fabulous art collection of Claude Gouffier, the great squire of Henri II. The artists reinterpret an exceptional original place and décor - a gallery of Renaissance murals in the style of the Fontainebleau school, painted and sculpted woodwork from the 17th century. Following in the footsteps of the Marquis de Carabas, whose model is said to have been Claude Gouffier, the visitor is invited to stroll between "Curiosities" & "Wonders" ...
