A Historic Site: In the fully restored former Carmelite convent, the daily life of the slate workers comes to light. Coffee is sipped at the kitchen table, next to the stove. They slip on their work clothes and hop on their bikes. Upon arriving at the mine, they pay their respects to Saint Barbara. Then they head underground or stay on the surface to split, chisel, and cut. He collected his pay at the café counter, a true hub of life in the town. %AB Legend has it that there were as many cafés as there were slate quarries %BB.
