Description

Dominating the Moselle River from its red sandstone promontory, Château de Sierck has watched over Sierck-les-Bains since the 11th century. A favorite residence of the Dukes of Lorraine, it has welcomed Gérard d'Alsace, Mathieu II, Charles II and Charles IV, each leaving their mark on its stones.

Tradition has it that, on Midsummer's Day, a flaming wheel descended from the top of the Stromberg to celebrate John I. Its history is marked by several famous sieges: victory for Duke Simon I in 1131, but defeat at the hands of Charles le Téméraire in 1475.

Incorporated into the kingdom of France in 1661, the château lost its residential function and became a military fort. It was dismantled, restored and rearmed according to wars and treaties, before being finally purchased by the town in 1866. Today, its remains are an invitation to travel back in time: imagine life at court, stroll the ramparts and enjoy an exceptional panorama of the Stromberg, Altenberg and Kirschberg hills.
