The Gallo-Roman site of Escolives (on the ancient Roman road known as Agrippa, 10 km south of Auxerre) was occupied throughout the Gallo-Roman period, between the end of the 1st century BC and the end of the 5th century AD. During this period, the buildings formed a vast villa (known from excavations). The site of Escolives is however recognized as being of national interest for another reason: sculpted blocks were found in the foundation of the thermal baths of the 4th century villa.
