Description

Built by Louis XV and Louis XVI, then refurbished under Napoleon I and Napoleon III, the Château de Compiègne was a mecca for court life and the exercise of power. The originality and beauty of France's largest neo-classical château, and the quality of its interior decor and furnishings, make it a unique ensemble, a historic site which, alongside Versailles and Fontainebleau, is one of France's three most important royal and imperial residences.

Listed as a historic monument, the Château de Compiègne offers visitors the chance to explore the Royal and Imperial Apartments, as well as several museums: the Musée du Second Empire, the Musée de l'Impératrice, the Musée national de la voiture and a park designated as a "Remarkable Garden".
