The Atlantic coast with Vélo Voyageur
You leave the magnificent city of La Rochelle via the Vélodyssée cycle route, which runs along the Atlantic coast. From small fishing villages to long, fine sandy beaches, through the dried-up marshes, your cycle ride takes you to Rochefort. Storks and herons take flight as you pass by.
In Rochefort, a former shipbuilding centre, be sure to admire the Hermione, a three-masted ship built using 17th-century methods. You’ll cross France’s last transporter bridge to reach the Île d’Oléron.
Enjoy a plate of Marennes oysters with your feet in the water during a refreshing break. You’ll discover the long, fine sandy beaches and fishing villages of Île d’Oléron before catching the boat back to La Rochelle.
