After leaving the old port enjoy a stage filled with scents from the fields of early fruits and vegetables in the Pays Léonard. A great variety of views can be enjoyed as you pass along the little lanes and managed trails, which take La Vélodyssée as far as Morlaix.

The seaside atmosphere slips into the background once the greenway reaches the upper part of town. From here on, this stage of La Vélodyssée moves into a dense forest setting, typical of the Monts d’Arrée.

The greenway is still the common thread of this very nature orientated stage of La Vélodyssée, giving the feeling that you have been plunged into the green depths of Brittany. The impressive natural setting of Huelgoat is well worth a detour, but is usually the preserve of more advanced cyclists.

Leave Carhaix town for Port-de-Carhaix on a greenway taking you to the confluence of the Hyères River and the Canal de Nantes à Brest. This stretch, free from motorised traffic, has remained largely untouched, with its unspoilt woods. Continue to Gourin, little capital of the Montagnes Noires hills. Here, in late July, there’s a big celebration of traditional Breton crêpes (pancakes).

After Gourin, you cross through very green parts. The former train station at Guiscriff makes for a charming stop, with its café, exhibition space and campsite. Then enter Coatloc’h Forest to appreciate its magical atmosphere. Approaching the town of Rosporden, farmland increasingly dominates the scene.

After Rosporden, this cycle route recently built on a converted railway serves the city center of Concarneau. The route provides lovely views over the countryside and Concarneau bay. At the end of the stage, a pretty greenway though an urban park allows you to finish your trip in gentle fashion, leading you to Concarneau’s port and rampart-surrounded historic centre.
