De Versailles à Chambord à vélo : l'échappée royale !

Un parcours vélo de 415 km au fil de l'histoire de France

Voici un parcours aussi original que royal qui relie deux châteaux à la renommée prestigieuse. On s'éclipse tranquillement de l'éclatant château de Versailles par la discrète vallée de Chevreuse suivie de la bocagère vallée de L'Eure. À Chartres, pédalez dans les traces des pèlerins de Saint-Jacques, où cette intimiste rivière révèle ses curiosités : villages, châteaux et autres vestiges... Une fois à Tours, il ne vous reste plus qu'à remonter le cours d'eau du fleuve royal jusqu'à votre arrivée au château de Chambord.

À peine sorti de la capitale et la campagne est déjà là. La vallée de Chevreuse est un condensé de nature et de petit patrimoine aux portes de Paris. Malgré le relief un peu prononcé, vous aurez plaisir à traverser les forêts, espaces naturels et ses charmants villages entre Versailles et Rambouillet. Un arrêt à l'abbaye des Vaux-de-Cernay s'impose avant de rejoindre Rambouillet et son domaine.

Vos coups de pédales vous portent tout droit au château de Maintenon qui abrita les amours secrets du Roi Soleil et de Madame de Maintenon, puis sous les vestiges de l'Aqueduc qui devait alimenter en eau le château de Versailles. Projet avorté, témoin de la folie des grandeurs de nos rois de France ! Quelques tours de roues plus loin, les flèches de la cathédrale de Chartes s'élèvent au-dessus des champs, une invitation à visiter cette cathédrale aux vitraux somptueux. On s'échappe de la capitale de la Beauce dans les traces de Marcel Proust jusqu'à Illiers-Combray et les rives du Loir.

Dans les traces des pèlerins de Saint-Jacques-de-Compostelle, vous furetez sur de petites routes tranquilles au fil de la Vallée du Loir et du Vendômois. Les petits villages de caractère et châteaux rutilants se succèdent : la cité médiévale de Bonneval, surnommée la Venise de Beauce ; l’éclatant Château de Montigny-le-Gannelon ; Châteaudun et son château perché au-dessus de la rivière ou encore le château en ruines de Lavardin. Avant d'arriver à Tours, vous traversez le Pays du Vouvray où les célèbres vignobles de Touraine méritent une dégustation !

Entre Tours et Blois, vous remontez le cours de ce fleuve royal, symbole séculaire de l’art de vivre à la Française. Sur l'itinéraire de la Loire à Vélo, vous évoluez au milieu de nombreux châteaux, petits et grands. Autour de vous, chaque château est marqué du sceau de son souverain. En ligne de mire, le château de Chambord, apothéose royale qui mérite une visite XXL. À moins que ses prestigieux voisins aient trop ralenti votre progression... Si vous êtes attendus, n'oubliez pas que la ponctualité est la politesse des rois !

After leaving Chartres, Saint-Jacques by bike head for llliers-Combray, town which inspired Marcel Proust for his mythical book "A la recherche du temps perdu". There is also a gentle transition to a more hilly territory, between Beauce and Perche.

The stage continues through country parts and undulating farmland, entering the Château-Renault area set between the Loir (without an “e”) and the Loire.
