Brittany by bike

2000 km of cycling routes in Bretagne

Brittany is a magical French region in which to organize wonderful cycling holidays! Spectacularly surrounded by the Channel and the Atlantic, Brittany is criss-crossed by eight major véloroutes and greenways, taking you through glorious, unspoilt nature and character-packed towns. All these cycle paths are safe and comfortable, following rivers and canal towpaths, disused railway lines, or quiet lanes hugging the coast. With over 1,300km of well-laid-out cycle routes, Brittany will greatly appeal to those in search of an active, green cycling holiday, as a family or among friends!

Cruising along the canals of Brittany

Brittany is criss-crossed by numerous canals, which are easy to follow along their towpaths. The best known is the Nantes–Brest Canal, which forms part of the Vélodyssée cycle route. We also invite you to explore the Ille and Rance Canal and the Vilaine between Dinan and Redon, or the mysterious Blavet between Pontivy and Lorient.

Cycling along old railway lines

Now disused, these old railway lines have been converted into cycle routes and made suitable for cyclists. The cycle route from Carhaix to St-Méen-le-Grand, from Roscoff to Concarneau, and the cycle route from Saint-Malo to the Rhuys Peninsula are all routes well worth exploring over a weekend.

Cycling along the Brittany coastline

When you think of Brittany, you naturally think of its rugged coastline, its small fishing ports, its beaches and coves with turquoise waters, and its seafood… The Tour de Bretagne cycle route is gradually taking shape.

Already, along the EuroVelo 4 route and the Mont Saint-Michel to Pays des Abers coastal route, a cycle route of over 500 km with a briny sea breeze awaits you. There are also some lovely getaways to be had in the Bay of Audierne, the Pays Bigouden, on the Quiberon peninsula and around the Gulf of Morbihan.
