Burgundy, an ideal region to learn about wine and its production while cycling
Surrounded by the vineyards of Santenay
Santenay, a wine-producing and tourist village, has a precious historical heritage: Saint-de-Narosse church from the 12th century and Saint-Jean from the 13th century, the Sorine mill carefully restored, Philippe le Hardi Castle and ancient Roman baths. The Mont de Sène site culminates at 521 m offering an impressive panorama. Its AOC classified vineyard produces good red wines made with pinot noir. Many winegrowers will be happy to show off their products. Be careful though - only drink in moderation, especially if you are cycling!
The vineyards of the Côtes Chalonnaise by bike
It was the monks who, in the Middle Ages, developed this beautiful sunny vineyard which extends from the south of the Côte de Beaune to the hills of the Mâconnais. Certainly less noble and famous than the Côte de Beaune appellations, the wines of the Côte chalonnaise are no less pleasant and much more accessible... Here are some local appellations to consume in moderation while passing by the cellars and restaurants of the Côte: Mercurey, Givry, Rully and burgundy-coast chalonnaise.
Discovery of the Côte de Beaune vineyard
The BIVB (Bureau Interprofessionnel des Vins de Bourgogne) in Beaune is the place where wine knowledge cannot be ignored. Before cycling on the vineyard roads, you should go to the Burgundy Wine School for professionals and individuals to acquire some basics to make the most of your oenological discoveries in the field. The school has a Cellar with aromas and organises conferences and tastings, walks between vineyards and wines, courses or tasting weekends.
The vineyards and orchards of the Auxerrois
Irancy is one of the two appellations of the Auxerrois vineyard. The wines produced under this appellation are red, with a beautiful ruby colour and red fruit aromas, based on pinot noir and caesar, an old local grape variety. Further north, the red, pink and white wines of the Burgundy - Coulanges-la-Vineuse appellation are produced. These wines, light and precious, are to be tasted during a gourmet getaway not to be missed by wine growers or in the shade of the cherry trees of the Yonne hills.
