Cycling in the Alpilles region

From Beaucaire to Tarascon

The Alpilles are an extension of Luberon and Alps, deriving their name from the latter. Set between the Luberon and the Camargue, the range looks like a rocky island with sharp limestone tops. It is now one of eight Parcs Naturels Régionaux in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region. Van Gogh, in his paintings, immortalized its landscapes with their olives, vineyards and orchards. Using an electric bike makes tackling Les Alpilles’s slopes much easier, for example to reach Les Baux-de-Provence or the area’s other 16 villages. To prepare for a visit to this delicious corner of Provence, maybe read Daudet’s classic 19th-century short stories, Lettres de mon moulin!
