Jardins de l'Abbaye de Fontenay
After discovering the abbey, a UNESCO World Heritage site, visitors can now linger in the grounds and wander freely in the two-hectare park, with its century-old trees, its trout pond and its large formal garden where the last scenes of "Cyrano de Bergerac" were filmed. Since 1997, the entire park has been embellished and transformed into a landscape garden by landscape architect Peter Holmes. The plantings have now reached maturity and visitors can admire a wide variety of roses, viburnum, choisya and hydrangea along the paths and lawns around the Cistercian buildings. The French-style ornamental garden has been awarded the "Remarkable Garden" label. A visit to the gardens is included in the entrance fee to the Abbey.
