On the Avenue Verte route, this route allows you to follow the Oise River to Beauvais, at the gateway to Normandy. Many curiosities await you along the way and the choice may be difficult! Indeed the route crosses many characteristic villages such as Auvers-sur-Oise where the famous impressionist painter Vincent Van Gogh now rests, Pontoise which will allow you to enjoy a view of the Oise Valley, the charming city of Isle Adam or the royal city of Senlis.
The Impressionist Island of Chatou
A little paradise for rowing, this small island on the Seine was a favourite haunt of Parisians in the 19th century. Auguste Renoir, Degas and Caillebotte would meet at the Maison Fournaise to stroll along the Seine, paint and enjoy themselves at the open-air café... This little island was a major source of inspiration for some of the Impressionists’ paintings. The Maison Fournaise is now home to a museum.
Auvers-sur-Oise and the Van Gogh House
Strolling through Auvers-sur-Oise will transport you to another era. This charming village has inspired many artists: Daubigny, Cézanne, Van Gogh... There are numerous museums and sites to visit in the town – you’ll have to make some choices! It is also here that Vincent Van Gogh and his brother are buried.
Royal town of Senlis
Stop off in Senlis, a medieval and royal town, to take the time to visit its majestic 12th-century Gothic cathedral and stroll through its historic town centre with its charming cobbled streets.
