Eglise Saint Martin 57420 Sillegny
This flamboyant Gothic style church invites you to discover a real treasure: wall paintings executed in tempera dating back to 1540!
At a time unknown to us, they were covered with whitewash. It is only in 1845 that, during a scraping of the apse, they were discovered and brought to light by Abbot SCHNABEL, parish priest from 1840 to 1891. It was the painter MALARDOT who was in charge of restoring them. The work lasted 20 years. From January 2002 to December 2004 the paintings were totally cleaned.
Visits proposed by the association the Sistine of the Seille.
